1998 was a special year in Van den Bosch's history. It was the year that Peter followed in his father Ad’s footsteps. To celebrate this milestone, Ad had a special gift up his sleeve: an American Kenworth, now better known as Truck 500.

The handover from Ad to Peter didn’t go unnoticed. In the former industrial building on Franseweg in Erp, a big party was organised for business partners and employees, to coincide with the transport show. 'The 500' was unveiled during the opening ceremony. A personal gift from Ad to Peter, which symbolised his taking over the wheel of the company.

Eyecatcher

Ad had brought the Kenworth over from America. It was a typical American truck, every driver's dream. Angular, rugged, lots of chrome and over 9 tonnes. It was really something to see. For many drivers, something really hit them there. Still today, the Truck 500 is used as a show truck during anniversaries and events.

Special ride

The Kenworth was immediately after the opening ceremony put to work transporting liquids, especially glucose from Bergen op Zoom to Veghel. Former colleague Cees van der Poel sat proudly behind the wheel for many years. Not long before Cees died, former driver Hans van Rooij picked him up with 'his 500' and together they drove to the head office together, where his former colleagues gave him a warm welcome. It was a very special drive.
