In 2008, the market collapsed due to the major financial crisis. A major Polish carrier went bankrupt, which created an opportunity to buy over as many as 50 new trucks at a soft price.

The trucks were initially built specifically for the Russian market. They were dark green in colour and, with 440 HP, a much heavier version than what our drivers were usually used to with 400 HP. It had a stand heater which kept the engine heated at night. This prevented the diesel from freezing. In the mostly extremely cold weather conditions in Russia and surrounding countries, this was a welcome addition to the truck.

Further striking details of the truck include the steel bumper, the top lights in the middle of the cab and the sound boxes in the rear wall.

First kilometres

At the time of purchase, there was actually no work for the Volvo FH Globetrotter. Nevertheless, they were repainted in Van den Bosch's new livery. Then the battery was taken out and they were literally parked in the meadow. There they were waiting to be used for the next 2-3 years. The older trucks in the fleet were driven until they were worn out, after which slowly these Volvos were allowed to drive their first kilometres.

Beautiful journey

The Volvo FH Globetrotter was mainly used for the department then called Liquid Food Road. In 2018, the truck was converted to a limited-speed motorcoach to do some final jobs at our former Bergen op Zoom Container Terminal site. The truck has since been added to our collection of oldtimers.
