It was a special moment when the 100th truck was welcomed into the Van den Bosch fleet in 1982. Former driver Hans van Rooij was there and was offered the keys as a surprise. In the years that followed, Hans was the proud driver of this brand new Volvo F10, now better known as 'the 100'.

Hans had already seen the new Volvo F10 at the RAI Exhibition Centre in Amsterdam. He visited it every two years with many of his colleagues to take a look. "When I saw this truck I thought: I can just see myself in that," says Hans. "It was a beautiful, modern truck. As a driver, it was exactly what you wanted to drive."

Festive surprise

Meanwhile, Ad van den Bosch had the new Volvo in his sights too. He bought it at the RAI and shortly after that the F10 was welcomed as our 100th truck. "I got a call to come to Erp, where the management of Van den Bosch and Martin van Heertum of BAS Trucks were waiting," Hans recalls. "Ad handed me the keys, and Martin gave me a Volvo watch as well. It was a fantastic surprise and a great honour to be the driver of this new Volvo."

Special milestone

The Volvo F10 is a full-options truck with 260 hp. It has chrome-plated hubcaps and a chrome-plated exhaust that runs up behind the cabin. "A beauty of a truck, made even more remarkable by the fact that it was truck number 100 in our fleet. It represented a milestone in our development, of which we were all very proud," says Hans.

Truck 100 was used for liquid road transport, especially for vegetable and animal fats, chocolate and water. After its solid years of service, the truck has been restored and included in the collection of oldtimers. 'The 100' is still used as a show truck for events, anniversaries and retirements.
